Real Life Adventures 27 (test): Chris Flanagan and the Impromptu Party (2004) - This was my second video, and was planned as an experiment to see how I could handle the documentary format.

I had checked out a camera to play around with it, and had decided to visit my friend Max (who appears in the red shirt) at the video store where he worked as he was getting off of work. When I arrived two other friends, John (with the beard, who later became my roommate and appears in many of my videos) and Chris Flanagan (who "could really use some vegetables") were already there, and I filmed the tail end of their discussion.

Chris needed to go to the supermarket to get some food, and I followed, and then we walked up the hill to Max's house where an impromptu gathering of friends formed (as it often did) centering around the plan to watch the The Vikings on an old VHS tape.

I used the prologue of that film to open and end the video. The opening of the video was shot several weeks before the events of the rest of the video, from an ice storm or freezing rain that left Eugene under an inch of ice, but gave a beautiful glow to the University of Oregon campus.

The video turned out very dark, and I supposed it would while I was filming it, so I used a variety of camera modes and Final Cut Filters to attempt to compensate. Later, I would discover methods in After Effects that would be more precise, but I chose to preserve the video as it originally shot and formatted, with it's slighty greyed out tones.

I was, and still am very happy with the results of the experiment.
